As the previous post reads: I went to Buckingham Palace, but that's not all. Emily and I spent a few hours in a coffee shop reading, went out for lunch, went to Covent Garden afterwards (markets!), spent about 30 minutes in a shop trying on "tester" lotions and perfume, and ate some Paella!
The previous day went a little something like this: Sat in on a trial at the Old Bailey's tour. Where yes, they do still where the wigs and cloaks, walked around for a bit, and then headed to Camden Markets where we found the coolest hidden gems (shopping wise). After that, we went to a comedy performance, then back to the markets, and made our way home and out to the pub for one final Friday night!
I don't think I'm leaving anything out. If you get the chance, read this book: Wanderlust. It's filled with so many great quotes, here are a few:
"I'd made my choice, and it was not to try for love, with all its risk of pain, but to travel" (93)
By leaving our safety net, we have thrown our souls open upon the wind, exposing ourselves to all of the fears and dangers that we sought to protect each other from, and in doing so, we have made ourselves available to experience things that...border on the magical [...] And so by setting me free, he began to reel me in again (173)
"Risk is one of the things that gives meaning" (170)
"I was now fully open to the chance encounter, the thing that could change me. I had finally unloosed my ties, and by force of will born free again. I was open to whatever the world put in my path" (158)
The best kind of travel-- the kind I wanted to experience--involves a particular state of mind, in which one is not merely open to the occurrence of the unexpected, but to the deep involvement in the unexpected, indeed, open to the possibility of having one's life changed forever by a chance encounter (157)
Read it!! Turkish delights go well with it! |
